The La Vernia Volunteer Fire Department & ESD #1 is actively seeking volunteers to join our department. We are a small but growing community in Wilson County. We strategically run out of three (3) stations covering around 80 square miles. We provide mutual aid to the surrounding area fire departments. We are currently accepting applications for volunteer positions. Below are the minimum qualifications.

Fire Suppression doesn’t interest you? You can get involved in a non-emergency capacity by joining the La Vernia Vol. Fire Dept. Fire Corp. There’s a job for everyone!

We also have a Junior Firefighter program for those that are not 18 years of age. There are two levels;

Level I (12-15): Juniors that will participate directly with the Fire Corp to gain the knowledge of fire prevention and life safety education.
Level II (16-18): Juniors that work directly with the Fire Department for training and on scene in non IDLH (Immediate Danger to Life or Health) atmosphere.


Ability to abide by all rules, regulations, policies and procedures set forth by La Vernia Volunteer Fire Department and ESD 1; ability to make decisions during emotional and stressful situations; ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.


  • Must pass a criminal background check & reference check.
  • Must pass a drug screen.
  • Must be willing to commit to training, and truck checks.
  • Department will be willing to also pay for you to get certifications if you volunteer your time back to us.
